My journey to wellness coaching
As a teen mom and married to my high school sweetheart, who eventually died from a drug overdose, I wasn’t asking myself “What could I be doing to live a more meaningful life?” I was deep in survival mode, working, going to school, taking care of my daughter and my alcoholic husband, keeping us under a roof and fed daily. But my story of health challenges began well before, stemming from childhood abuse and subsequent trauma.
Throughout my journey, I have experienced health challenges ranging from eczema, poor digestion to migraines with aura, hypertension and insomnia (not an exhaustive list). Sprinkle in severe depressive disorder, people-pleasing, perfectionism, a work ethic most employers would kill for, a dash of anxiety and you have a recipe for complete overwhelm and burnout. After a particularly horrendous period of insomnia, my body informed me we weren’t going to continue on the path of over-achieving and fear-based choices. That part of my life was over and it was time to pull all the threads together and weave a new path.
During an immensely stressful period, I found Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction to be a life-saving endeavor. I continued on and became a certified trauma-informed mindfulness meditation teacher. I had also joined a positive psychology based coaching program to help staff deal with the stress of COVID and started a Masters in Health Psychology. All of my trainings and certifications have had the common thread of helping people with stress management, building emotional resilience and intelligence, learning to love themselves, living healthfully, and SLEEP (glorious sleep!).
This is a snap-shot of my story and I’d love to hear about you! I’ve found deep meaning in sharing how I learned to care for myself, while overcoming challenges and building resilience. Book a conversation with me, I’d love to work together to weave your path into the life you love.
